In the Battle of Vimeiro on 21 August 1808 Anglo- Portuguese army under Wellington struck at Vimeiro a French army under Junot. As a result of this battle, the Convention of Cintra was agreed: the French declared themselves ready to evacuate the whole of Portugal, and we were given free passage. They were brought to British ships back to France. This was Portugal, which had been occupied since 1807 by French troops liberated.
