Baudhayana

Baudhayana exacts was an Indian mathematician who lived around 800 BC. About him is only known that he is the author of the Sulbasutras ( the oldest of about four and with the most important of Apastamba ).

He was probably used a Vedic priest, mathematics for ritual purposes. The Sulbasutra outlined in mathematics was used for construction of altars and from the text it is clear that he himself was a skilled craftsman. The aim of the Sulbasutras is to provide guidance for construction of certain circles, rectangles and squares, for example, a square of equal area as given two different squares and a square of equal area to a rectangle.

There are approximate values ​​for (of not very great accuracy ) and, (up to five decimal places ) and there are constructions based on the Pythagorean theorem.

Are attributed to him also a Dhamra Sutra and a Shrauta Sutra.
