A farmer's breakfast is a simple, vivid food from fried potatoes, eggs, onions, leeks or chives and bacon, ham or smoked meat. In this case, all the ingredients are mixed in a pan and cooked like an omelet or scrambled eggs. Typical side dishes include tomato salad or pickles.

A Berlin variant is Hoppelpoppel.

Similar dishes are also known in other countries, in France for example, as omelette à la Paysanne ( with Sorrel), in Spain as a tortilla de patatas or in Sweden as Pyttipanna.
