Baumgarten an der March is a small place and a cadastral district of the municipality of willows on the March in Lower Austria with 192 inhabitants ( as of 2001).

The town is famous due to its importance in the Austrian energy. Baumgarten is since 1970 a hub for Russian gas to Western Europe. Around one third of the total western European demand is supplied by pipeline via the station. That is about 47 billion cubic meters annually.

On a 18 -hectare estate, a compressor station OMV is composed of Filterseparatoren, gas drying equipment, multiple compressor units, gas coolers, measuring distances and much more. The arriving here natural gas is compressed and in the West-Austria -Gas-Pipeline (WAG) and Trans-Austria -Gas-Pipeline (TAG ) is pumped. A small part of the gas is also passed to Hungary. Since 2011 this work gearless, oil -free magnetic bearings electric motors as drive.

Besides OMV, Gazprom also operates a small liaison office in Baumgarten.

Also, here is a strategic gas reserves for Austria in the two underground storage facilities in Tallesbrunn and Schoenkirchen from which gas was earlier promoted. The imported gas is pumped in and stored into these memories.

More underground storage located in Thann and Puchkirchen in Upper Austria as well as in Haidach in Straßwalchen on the border of Salzburg / Austria. The memory in Puchkirchen Haidach and operated by RAG. The total stored in the five Austrian underground storage gas amount covers about 60 % of the annual requirement.

Also being planned Nabucco pipeline, which will run over the Balkans to Austria from eastern Turkey, will end here.

While the gas dispute between Ukraine and Russia at the beginning of 2009, when Russia veered gas supply, compressor station stopped completely.
