Bauska Castle

Bauska Castle ( Latvian Bauskas Pils ) is the name for a complex of a ruined castle and a Renaissance castle in the Latvian town of Bauska (German Bauske ).

The impressive complex is situated between the rivers Mūša and Memele on the edge of the city center. The first buildings were built 1443-1456 by the Teutonic Knights, in the late 16th century, after the collapse of the German Teutonic Order in 1562, was built on the site of the bailey residence of the Duke of Courland. The Renaissance castle dating from the 17th and 18th centuries. In the Northern War fort and palace were blown up. From the Order seat only the ruins are preserved.

The lock is permanently restored and repaired the ruins can be visited in the summer months, daily, other parts are accessible during guided tours. On the central tower there is a viewing platform.

In July of each year in the ruins and various rooms of the castle international festival of medieval music concerts.
