Bavarian D II (old)

The D II Royal Bavarian State Railways was a Vizinalbahn tank locomotive with two driving axles. Since these vehicles, namely fell very early in the years 1891-1894 the retirement whose generic name for the 1898 introduced C -coupled switcher was reused.

The D II were the smallest standard gauge locomotives that has ever owned the Bavarian State Railways. They corresponded to a plant type Krauss, who was delivered in a number of variants for different purposes in cars and construction companies. The boiler was wearing instead of a steam dome only a regulator attachment behind the fireplace, exterior led from where the Dampfeinströmrohre the boiler to the cylinders. The steam supply regulated an external Allansteuerung. The locomotive ran on cast disc wheels and had a water box frame, that is, the space between the two side frames was designed as a water container. The cab was initially protected only by a freestanding roof; later, the locomotives were given a full cab with bevelled front roof.

To use the D II came to the opened in the early 1870s Vizinalbahnstrecken Siegelsdorf - Langenzenn, Immenstadt -Sonthofen and Georgensgmuend gap. Since their poor performance was no longer sufficient for the simple branch line operation soon, they were retired after only two decades of operation.
