Bavarian D III

The D III of the Royal Bavarian State Railways was a tank locomotive for shunting and Vizinalbahndienst.

Krauss had a locomotive of this type, which was developed according to the same design principles as the B VII, shown at the Vienna World Exhibition in 1873 and sold to the Bebra - Hanau railway. The Bavarian State Railways decided also for the purchase of six locomotives, probably for purposes of comparison with the related service since 1871 Maffei machines of class D I.

The D III were equipped with an external Allansteuerung and a closed cab. The reservoir towered over the rear driving axle out.

The locomotives were used to some extent in the secondary lines, partly in light shunting and Others in Munich and Ingolstadt, and in Lindau to operate the Bodenseetrajektschiffe. Since the machines could not come close to the performance of the D IV due to lightweight construction, they were already retired 1894-1897. The machinery was sold to the local railway Röthenbach hamlet or to the Bavarian Cementwerke mine Marie Stone, all others were scrapped.
