Bavarian D IX

The steam engines of the type D IX were made ​​by Maffei 1888-1899 for the Royal Bavarian State Railways. They were used on the route from Reichenhall Freilassing to Salzburg. Once a machine has been used successfully on the way to Berchtesgaden, the vehicles came to the suburban railways of Augsburg, Munich and Nuremberg are used.

The various production groups showed little difference. It was not until 1896 measurements and the inventories slight changes were made ​​to the heating surfaces. Not proven itself in addition to the rigid arrangement of the propellant charges and the wheel set and the arrangement of the cylinders had just before the wheelset. The locomotives of the series D IX could carry 170 tons on level ground at a speed of 65 km / h on tracks with 2% slope 95 tons at 20 km / hr.

Except for one specimen, which was retired by Bavaria before, the German Reichsbahn took over all vehicles. Some ones were taken already before 1925, all the others followed until 1932.

From the Bavarian D IX no specimen was preserved.
