Bavarian GtL 4/4

The locomotives of the genus GtL 4/4 were steam locomotives of the Bavarian State Railways for use on local railways.

History

The vehicles were supplied by Krauss to the state railway. 1911 two, in 1914 another eleven machines were produced. Developed they were by Richard von Helmholtz.

Due to the good experience with the GTL 4/4, the Bavarian Group Administration of the Deutsche Reichsbahn to purchase additional copies of this locomotive decided. 1921-1927 delivered by Krauss again 108 machines that were slightly heavier and differed in the execution of the cab of the original 13 copies. The last 17 locomotives of 1927 were again heavier than the previous machines, which was due to increased inventories. Boiler, engine and power remained unchanged throughout the procurement period.

In the Reichsbahn locomotives were classified as Class 98.8-9 with the numbers 98801-98917.

29 GtL 4/4 to modified 1934-1941 by putting them in equipping with a Bissel - axis and thus adapting it to the 1'D locomotives. The rebuilt locomotives, also known as GTL 4/5 were ranked in the range 98.11. The goal of the renovation was to improve the running characteristics, and the speed limit was increased from 40 km / h to 55 km / h.

The LAG has two GtL 1922 4/4 obtained which corresponded to the state railway version of 1921. The vehicles with the track numbers 80 and 81 were based at Bw Thal churches Isartalbahn. They remained there even after the takeover by the Reichsbahn. They were different from the rest GtL 4/4 belongs to the series 98.16 and received the numbers 98 1601 and 98 1602.

During the Second World War, five locomotives were destroyed, another three remained at the former Czechoslovak State Railway ČSD.

The remaining machines from being German Federal Railroad, which began with the retirement in the 1950s.

The two LAG machines debuted in 1950 in the Bw Rosenheim and were retired in 1957 and 1958.

Two locomotives, 98 812 and 98 886, were still 1968 computer running numbers, but were retired shortly thereafter. 98 886 then served until 1975, as a heating engine. 98 812 1970 raffle ( raffle "Stars of the track") and came across a student at the Ulm railway enthusiasts, where it is capable of rolling present.

After use as a heating engine locomotive 98 886 was erected in 1978 as a memorial in front of the main train station Schweinfurt. Construction
