Then the first 10 teams played in two groups of five teams to a second round. The top two in both groups then played from the championship playoffs. The last four teams after the first round played out of the relegation round, after the last- placed team relegated sporty addition to the retracted Teams ESV King Brunn in the national league.

Since 2003/ 04 the Bavarian league starts single track with 16 teams. Previously, the league was two years into a set East and West with a group of eight teams. Contrary to public perception, the Bavarian League, however, was seen in the longer term is not increased, but decreased. Although there were 1999/2000 league with only 14 teams, early to mid -1990s, however, took up to 21 teams, divided into two groups on the Bayern league. The modes alternated depending on the size of the league from again. Since 2003, the mode for the most part is consistent. From 2003 /04 to 2007/ 08, the first eight teams played after the season Play - Offs in the best-of -three mode. Since 2008 /09, as described, an additional elimination round in between.

Also with regards to promotion and relegation there was, mainly because of strong structural fluctuations in höherklassigeren leagues, constantly changes especially in the number of up- or relegated. So it happened that in the seasons 2007/ 08 and 2008/ 09 all rise legitimate teams refused a promotion to the Oberliga. Due in part to its own structures - for example, because the matches in the professional sector did not appear feasible - but also because of the undursichtigen structures and fluctuations in organized by the ESBG professional area. The different league substitutes strengths and regulations also meant that there were between 2004/ 05 ( Höchstadter EC) and 2008/ 09 ( TEV Miesbach ) not relegated from the Oberliga Bayern in the league led.

For the 2008/09 season, the two- point system was replaced by the three- point system.

For the season 2010/ 11, the previously valid 2-man referee system were replaced for the holding of the Games through the three -man referee system.

For the 2011/12 season the relegation playoffs from the " Best of Three" mode has been changed to " Best of Five".

For the season 2012/ 13 was for teams that take part in a relegation round and then do not want to move up back in the league after a sporty descent, introduced that they must have submitted a written statement to the beginning of the relegation round.
