The Bavarian State Opera in Munich is one of the most prestigious opera houses in the world, and can look back on an impressive history and tradition. Europe acclaimed premieres took place back in 1700.

History

Munich's first opera house was built in 1657 on Salvatorplatz and can thus be considered as the oldest in the German-speaking countries (except for the Vienna Court Opera, also goes back to the beginning of the 17th century ). 1751 was the theater in the residence of the main venue, in which the Court had to play mostly Italian operas - 1781 Mozart's Idomeneo premiered. A big Royal Court and National Theatre was built from 1810 to 1817. It had to be rebuilt twice: once after a major fire in 1823-25 and after the Second World War 1958-63.

Today offers the Munich State Opera - together with the Bavarian State Ballet - a dense repertoire operation with nearly 350 opera and ballet performances a year. Performances are held at the National Theatre at the Max -Joseph-Platz, in the Prince Regent Theatre or Old Residence Theatre ( Cuvilliés Theatre ) instead. In June 2010, for the first time found conceptions held in the temporary, created for the Opera Festival 2010 Pavillon 21 MINI Opera Space. The Opera House will be recorded by the Bavarian State Orchestra.
