Bay of Plenty#The bay itself

The Bay of Plenty is a bay on the North Island of New Zealand. It is located in the same region.

It stretches from the Coromandel Peninsula in the west to Cape Runaway in the east. The region is bounded on the west by the two hills Kaimai Mamaku Ranges and Ranges and extends up into the sparsely populated forest areas around Rotorua, Kawerau and Murupara. In the bay there are several islands, the most famous Mayor Iceland, Motiti Iceland, Iceland Whale and the active volcano of White Iceland.

It was named the bay of James Cook in October or November of the year in 1769. Cook named it Bay of Plenty ( "Bay of Plenty " ), after he had discovered rich food stocks in several villages of Māori. This was in great contrast to the observations he had previously made in the Poverty Bay ( "Bay of poverty "). - 37.266666666667176.8Koordinaten: 37 ° 16 ' S, 176 ° 48 ' E
