Bayas River

The Río Bayas (also Río Baias written; Basque: Baia) is a tributary of the Ebro river in the northern Spanish province of Álava, in the Autonomous Community of the Basque Country. It is the largest river in the province of Álava.

Geography

The Río Bayas springs on the southern slope of Mount Gorbea, the highest with 1482 meters of elevation of the province of Álava. It flows through the Association of Municipalities ( municipios ) of Cuartango, Ribera Alta and Lantarón in north-south direction and flows south of the town of Miranda de Ebro (Burgos province ) in the Ebro.

Attractions

On the banks of the River Bayas there - except for a menhir at Zastegi - only scenic attractions. The area is ideal for hiking; in warmer weather, a climb to the summit of Mount Gorbea is possible; The mountain is also a natural park ( Parque natural de Gorbea ) surrounded.
