Bayrakli Mosque, Samokov

The Bairakli Mosque ( also Bayraklı Mosque, Bulgarian Байракли джамия / Bajrakli dschamija ) is a mosque in Samokov in Bulgaria. The mosque is on the list of the Bulgarian cultural monuments of national importance.

History

The mosque was originally built in the 16th century as a rectangular, flat roofed hall. It was remodeled comprehensively master of Samokov School in the thirties of the 19th century. In the fifties and sixties of the 20th century, it was restored by the architect Nikola Muchanow and the painter Georgi Belstoïnew and a museum.

Plant

This is a solid timber construction. For the bulges, the natural curves of the wooden beams were harnessed. During the renovation, the mosque was redesigned as a square central structure with a Pendentifkuppel on four free-standing columns. The large prayer hall is 14 x 14.5 m tall. The minaret is provided with a spiral-shaped ornament made ​​of bricks.

Equipment

The ornamental frescoes created the painter Ivan Obrasopisow, Kosta Waljow and Christo Jowewitsch from Samokov.
