Bayshore Boulevard

Bayshore Boulevard is a 7.2 km long street in Tampa, Florida. It runs along the Hillsborough Bay in South Tampa. From their about three feet wide walkway with the balustrade is said to be the longest continuous sidewalk in the world. At just under five kilometers, there is a bike lane. The road follows a long-drawn green area.

Course

The Bayshore Boulevard runs north -south direction along the western shore of Hillsborough Bay. The road begins in the north on the west Brorein Street, crosses under immediately the toll motorway Florida State Road 618 (Lee Roy Selmon Expressway or Southern Crosstown Expressway) as a two-lane road built-up areas. From the junction with the West Platt Street to the road has two lanes in each direction. There are in this section, no median strip. The continuous beach boardwalk begins under the ramps to Davis Boulevard. From here, the road also includes three lanes in each direction, and the third lane is partially used as turning and Einfädelspuren and partly they are additionally available.

From the junction with the South Rome Street on the road has separate carriageways, the central strip is designed as a green area. From the junction with the South Howard Avenue omitted one lane in each direction. At the junction with the West Hawthorne Road finally ends the continuous waterfront promenade and a little further south, on the West Gandy Boulevard, the section ends with the separate four-lane carriageways and traffic management. The close proximity of the shore leaving the road at the junction of the Interbay Boulevard, from where they continued mostly runs through residential areas to the south in the direction of Mac Dill Air Force Base. Gateway to the Air Force base located south of the intersection with Bayshore Trails Drive. In the southeastern area of ​​the military base, the road finally ends.

State

The condition of the road has been rated by the city government as insufficient in light of the planned for the end of August 2012 Republican National Convention. The road surface had damage, and the city administration feared that the Bayshore Boulevard would cast a bad light on the city, if the city in connection with the reporting by the Congress of the Republican Party experienced increased media attention.

The city therefore has a budget of 1.5 million U.S. dollars provided to improve the balustrade, add the landscape system of the central strip and the wheel tracks, but the road surface was bumpy and in bad condition. The beginning of the project implementation led to traffic delays. The bike paths are intended to facilitate the use of the promenade for pedestrians and joggers, who will no longer have to share the sidewalk with cyclists. Plans for the project began in March 2011 also include the demolition of six to four lanes in the particularly busy section between Davis Boulevard and South Howard Avenue.
