Bazna

Bazna ( German Bazna or Bazna Transylvanian Saxon Baußen, Hungarian BAZNA or Felsőbajom ) is a municipality in the district of Sibiu in Transylvania, Romania.

Location

The place is located 9 kilometers northwest of Medias to 312 m altitude. You can reach the spa town of Medias from across the national road DN 14, both of rivers Târnava (German Kokel ), the Târnava Mare ( Great Kokel dt ) and the Târnava Mica (Eng. Small Kokel ) crossed.

Population

In 1966, the city had 2243 inhabitants, three years after the revolution were registered in 1992 from 1715 residents still 205 German descent. The other residents of the community Bazna live in the villages and Boian Velt.

History

King Stephen V ( reigned as King of Hungary from 1270 to 1272 ) gave the place the son of Count Bozouch. In 1302 Bazna was first mentioned in records. In 1359 it became a free commune as belonging to the crown land as the Media shear chair called. The German colonists settled first on the rear, a hill on, later became a place in the front valley.

In the center of the town they built a fortified church. 1672 was reported for the first time about the burning water by Bazna. In this legend is told that a shepherd near a source of a fire made ​​and thereby also lit the water. In 1752, the chemist George 's beds Sibiu examined for the first time the salt springs. 1808 sent the government of Vienna, a group of chemists and physicists after Bazna to investigate the healing properties of the salt and the climate there. 1843 was the first spa by four residents of Medias there started a business. It was taken over in 1905 by the Protestant church, which extended the facilities.

The settlement developed over time to a spa, already in 1845, the number of bathers 637 people. The mineral springs contain chlorine, iodine and bromine. The most famous product is the so-called Baaßener salt. The holiday areas are located at the foot of the hill near the oak and beech forests.
