BBC Parliament

BBC Parliament is a British television station of the British Broadcasting Corporation with a focus on the transfer of political events. The program of the Parliamentary Television include the meetings of the House of Commons and the House of Lords, the Northern Ireland Assembly, the Scottish Parliament and the Welsh Assembly and the meetings of smaller committees. Furthermore, it is also transmitted imagery from the European Parliament.

Prior to its acquisition by the BBC, the transmitter under the name The Parliamentary Channel was known. At that time he was in 1992 at the hands of United Artists Cable and was financed by a consortium of British cable operator. On 23 September 1998, the BBC bought the transmitter and sent under the new name. Today BBC Parliament is via cable, satellite and Freeview to receive the British counterpart to DVB -T. In addition, BBC Parliament to be received via a live stream on the internet world. By 14 November 2000, the audio track via DAB was receivable.

Due to limited capacity in the digital terrestrial television broadcast BBC Parliament since its launch until October 30, 2008 in this transmission format only the audio track. After the advent of Freeview the transmitted program had indeed a picture but it took only a quarter of the image area. On violent protest, the BBC could provide enough bandwidth is available a short time later, so that full screen was possible.

What is remarkable about BBC Parliament that the material - as opposed to the other BBC channels - almost entirely from BBC foreign productions and transmission facilities. Important events and reporting are in spite of everything in the hands of the BBC.
