BBÖ Class 12

The steam locomotive series BBÖ 12 was a high-speed train tender locomotive series of BBÖ.

Convinced by the probation of kkStB series 112 BBÖ decided in 1934 to procure also tender locomotives for rapid transit. For cost reasons, but a conversion of C - n2 tank locomotives (1898, Krauss / Linz) was performed. One of each was rebuilt by the locomotive factory Floridsdorf in 1934 and 1937. To convert the machines were 97 153 and 97 152. The boiler and control were taken over unchanged. An oil-fired furnace, the supply container is installed on the rear part of the elongated vessel, allowing a einmännige operation. The machines were given a special paint, where the water tanks and the cab were painted light green.

The small locomotives worked well, but was no further remodeling since 1935 from the BBÖ DT could be used for one short high-speed trains.

1938 took over the German Reichsbahn the machines as 69 001 and 69 002 Only the latter was after the Second World War still exist and came as 69.02 for ÖBB, rebuilt it into a bridge test vehicle. The machine has been preserved until today.
