BC Book Prizes

The BC Book Prizes, established in 1985, is a compilation of now seven literary awards, which recognize the achievements of those writers and editors who live in British Columbia or the Yukon Territory.

These seven awards, and has been awarded since 2004 The Lieutenant Governor's Award for Literary Excellence will be awarded annually at Lieutenant Governor's BC Book Prize Gala in April. The respective shortlist will be published in March.

The prices are administered and awarded by a non-profit society that come from all areas of publishing and writing guild.

The winners need not be a Canadian citizen, but have lived at least three of the last five years in British Columbia. Her works may be published in other regions or countries.

The BC Book Prizes include the following prices that recognize the categories of poetry, novel, regional history, nonfiction, children's books and bookstores.

  • Dorothy Livesay Poetry Prize - Poetry
  • Ethel Wilson Fiction Prize - novel, short stories ( fiction ), no anthologies and translations
  • Roderick Haig -Brown Regional Prize - Regional History
  • Hubert Evans Non- Fiction Prize - nonfiction
  • Sheila A. Egoff Children's Literature Prize - Children's and Young Adult Literature
  • Christie Harris Illustrated Children's Literature Prize - illustrated children's book
  • Bill Duthie Booksellers ' Choice Award - price of the book trade
  • Lieutenant Governor's Award for Literary Excellence
