BD-J

BD- J is Blu-ray Disc Java, and describes a system that allows for storage, and execution of interactive applications on a Blu -ray disc.

As part of the Blu- ray Disc specification of an interactive application layer has been defined, the application such as an interactive movie menu (similar to the previous DVD menu ), interactive supplementary information, games, interactive films (eg, films with multiple storylines ) and advertising and shopping services to enable a return channel access. The application layer is based on the BD -J Java - mentioned variant, a variant of the Multimedia Home Platform or the GEM specification ( Globally Executable MHP). BD -J will be implemented on any standard Blu -ray Disc-compliant device that can play Blu -ray Disc movies.

Technology ( compared with the Multimedia Home Platform )

Unlike the Multimedia Home Platform, the BD -J format does not provide access to broadcasting services. Instead, the applications are stored on the Blu -ray medium together with other audio and video information. By accessing playlists, BD-J applications can play specific individual audio and video sequences. Since the Blu- ray Disc allows you to play HD video, also support BD-J applications HD resolutions. A opposite the MHP enhanced mechanism for accessing fonts ( fonts), allows the automatic loading of fonts used by applications from the Blu -ray Disc media. BD-J applications still have access to an IP-based return channel, provided that the BD drive is connected to a corresponding network.

Homebrew on Playstation 3

The homebrew scene is recently managed to get up and running by the BD -J format homebrew on the PlayStation 3. Starting with a simple snake clone, the first NES emulator is already published. This possibility, however, was closed some time ago, so it is no longer possible from firmware version 2.50 to run BD- J Homebrew.
