Be Here Now is the title of the third studio album by the British band Oasis. It was released (in the U.S. on August 26, 1997 by Epic Records ) on August 21, 1997 by Creation Records. The title refers to a quote by John Lennon concerning his view of the importance of rock ' n ' roll. Although the public expectations especially in the UK was so gigantic as last in terms of quality and success of the new album to Beatlemania times that the Oasis management was forced to regulate the dissemination of promotional materials for the trade press strongly, so that no more than four the album's songs were played on the radio, the disappointment after the waning of the hype was all the more dramatic because the music was not about increasing the fan base, but the band on the contrary brought massive criticism of their creative work and an unprofessional attitude.

Background

According to one of fighting between the brothers Gallagher and wild parties escorted tour in 1996 played gang leader Noel Gallagher with the idea of leaving Oasis, and left the band on September 11, 1996 in the middle of the North American tour actually. However, he found himself short time after the supposedly final off in various recording studios, which finally joined the rest of the band after the end of the U.S. tour.

Driven to be "the best band in the world " by the will, Oasis wanted to put an end to negative headlines about a possible band resolution and a creative crisis. The work on the recordings designed to later testimony by the Gallaghers but not too concentrated. As on the recently completed tour many parties were celebrated and used drugs.

Pressure to succeed

Not only in the UK was the media expectation very large, similar to Beatles times since Oasis the remarkable commercial success of their first- Definitely Maybe with the album (What's the Story ) Morning Glory? had far exceeded. The third album was to continue this development and emphasize Oasis prominent role in the UK and worldwide music scene and conquer the U.S. music market.

According to many observers at that time the artistic failure of the album marks eventually but on the contrary, the end of the Britpop era.

Production

Part of the songs on the album and B-sides composed Noel on the island of Mustique. Guest musicians were Johnny Depp ( slide guitar on Fade In-Out ), Mark Feltham ( harmonica on All Around the World) and Mark Coyle ( Backward bits on D' You Know What I Mean? ) On. < The string arrangements are of Noel Gallagher and Nick Ingham. The production took over Noel and Owen Morris. Music and lyrics of all songs were written by Noel Gallagher.

The recordings for the album were from November 1996 to April 1997 at Abbey Road, Ridge Farm, Air, Master skirt and Orinoco Studios, London.

Style

The album takes the catchy guitar - dominated Wall -Of- Noise sound of its predecessor (What's the Story ) Morning Glory? continued, with the guitars even more alike in terms of volume, melody and number and length of solos advantage. The songs are almost always longer than 5 minutes and most often composed in the pattern verse- bridge - chorus-verse. Noel Gallagher spent as a self-imposed target to release a trilogy of albums that should go down as a definition of the typical Oasis sounds in the story. Be Here Now can thus be understood as an attempt to create a crowning, superlative conclusion of the period of the band's history.

Reviews

Even in the eyes of the tape head Noel Gallagher Be Here Now has been in retrospect, a unique musical bust, so he shares the opinion of many critics. From media and fans cheered initially counting as monumental and at the best albums of all time, after some time, voices were raised, the lack of lyrical depth, excessive production and uninspired, imitative songwriting criticized.

This perception still dominates today. In the eyes of many fans, however, the harsh criticism of this album is unjustified, since it contains the catchy guitar -dominated Wall - Of -noise sound of its predecessor (What's the Story ) Morning Glory? continues to carry on. See precisely where critics, however, a sign of absence of musical development. The fact that Noel himself no longer holds much of his work, one can also recognize the fact that he chose not a single track from Be Here Now for the best-of compilation Stop the Clocks.

Success

To date (September 2006), the album has sold nearly 8 million copies. In the UK it was the fastest selling album of all time with 432,000 albums sold on launch or 695 761 copies in its first week of release and over 1 million sales after 2 weeks. By 2006, 2.5 million copies were sold in the UK alone. This record still exists today.
