Bea Wain

Bea Wain ( born April 30, 1917 in New York City as Beatrice Wayne ) is an American singer of the swing era and radio presenter.

Life and work

Wain, who had learned piano as a child occurred early on in the NBC radio series Children's Hour. As a teenager she sang in vocal groups like Bea and the Bachelors ( with Al Rinker, Ken Lane and John Smedberg ) and the V8, which appeared in the show by Fred Waring. After first appearances with the Orchestra of Gene Kardos and recorded with Artie Shaw in 1937 she took Larry Clinton as a singer in his orchestra. There she sang a number of hits such as Martha, You Go to My Head, Deep Purple, Heart and Soul, My Reverie and Cry, Baby, Cry ( with the exception of the first two all number-one hits). In 1939 she was chosen by Billboard as the most popular band singer. In the same year she began her solo career and continued the series of their successes with I'm Nobody 's Baby, Do I Worry? Kiss the Boys Goodbye and forth.

Since 1938, she was married to the radio announcer André Baruch, with whom she had two children and occurred after the Second World War for WMCA radio as a disc jockey team Mr. and Mrs. Music.
