Beanie Babies

Beanies are filled with plastic granulate (English beans ) stuffed Stuffed Animals, founded by Ty Warner Company Ty. Due to a special sale concept with a limited edition, there was a kind of speculative bubble in the late 1990s, when Beanie Babies were temporarily used as an object of speculation.

Product lines

There are product lines Beanie Baby (small) and Beanie Buddy (large). Each Beanie is with a tag, a small heart-shaped pendant, with his name and an award is stated ( in English), delivered.

Sales concept

Beanie models are each produced only over a limited period of time. After setting a single model, the article is referred to as retired ( freely translated: sent into retirement ). Furthermore, there are too many countries, a special bear, for example, " Germania " for Germany, which was only delivered in this country.

Beanies as collectibles

Due to the heat generated by the marketing concept supposed scarcity these cuddly animals have in some collector circles gained a lot of popularity. In the consumer hopes to price increases were awakened due to a low selling price and a limited edition, which meant that the stuffed animals were used as an object of speculation. Thus they initially won heavily in value ( from the initial price of $ 5 in 1995 to about $ 250 in 1998 ) and there was a Beanie Baby bubble that burst in the late 1990s, after Ty announced that series in 1999. After a television documentary there was a family in California who had invested to that date, more than $ 100,000 and was financially ruined after the bursting of the bubble. Today Beanie Babies are traded only in individual cases substantially above its initial value.
