BearShare

BearShare is a closed-source P2P file sharing client that can be purchased with the DRM - restricted music and also MP3 files can be exchanged. The current version, which is offered by the company Musiclab LLC, BearShare 12.0. The older versions of the program submitted by the company Free peers and non-restricted use.

History

BearShare was until 2006 a popular swap meet with the Gnutella network and has been developed by Free Peers, Inc.. It allowed, such as LimeWire, the rapid exchange of smaller files. The peer-to -peer software that implemented the Gnutella protocol, allowing their users to share files directly from user to user and to find existing files globally. She ran on Microsoft Windows and was available in three versions:

  • BearShare Pro was a paid ad-free version. By the profit with the program author of the exchanged with Bearshare files were increasingly skeptical.
  • BearShare was a free version that installed adware. Deleting these parts of the program is difficult.
  • BearShare Lite was a free, ad-free version with fewer malware and limited extent.

BearShare and LimeWire had in recent years, the most popular client for the Gnutella network and pressed ahead with its development. LimeWire has been proven in a court process with the requirement to integrate the filter into the software. According to the complaint waves against private file sharers and because of the spyware installed along the number of users fell continuously. Therefore emerged from the disclosed some time ago LimeWire source of unlimited and ad-free swap meet client Frostwire, which was developed by any company, but from an online community now freelance coder. Another trend is to use multiple networks in a client such as Shareaza.

After a court trial for an action of a record company, the development in 2005 has been set. After multiple processes an agreement with the Recording Industry Association of America was held on 4 May 2006, in the BearShare music industry pays 30 million U.S. dollars. Then, the software company was taken over by the competitors Musiclab LLC, offering the paid swap meet iMesh. After iMesh and Bearshare had agreed with the music industry, the use BearShare plays from now under the supervision of the rights owner. As a result, created the version BearShare 6.0.

The new program differs V.A. to the fact that the exchange rules may be affected by the rights owner and the purchase of music is possible. Therefore, the new system is also called "legal P2P ". When a user attempts to download for free as copyrighted indexed files gets this the note " copyrighted " and another transfer is prevented. BearShare is therefore not a pure Gnutella client more, but is centrally controlled. BearShare hardly iMesh is different in this version, the only striking difference is a different graphical user interface of the program. From version 5.1 BearShare contained more adware and connects to a server iMesh. Bearshare 6.0 can be described as an interface for iMesh music store.

Today unofficial predecessor versions ( BearShare 5.x) rely on the used of different file sharing Gnutella technology that does not allow filtering or regulation of total supply. Due to the decentralized and self-organizing architecture of the Gnutella network, which are already in circulation BearShare older versions of the old operator company Free peers can be fully and independently of the current server- based version 6.0 used. However, they are only offered on smaller niche sites because they were replaced by the popular download portals under pressure from the new operating company by the current version.

Since the release of BearShare 6.0 is also BearFlix, a legal P2P file exchange program that specializes in video files on the Internet and as a full version (both in English) available. The design is from version 5, only the categories you will find various video formats like mpeg, avi or wmv.

The version 7, which was released October 27, 2008, provides iPod support also except unlimited downloads.
