Beat Street

Beat Street is an American breakdance film of 1984. Filmed by Stan Lathan film depicts the life of a teenage gang, consisting of DJs, breakdancers and graffiti artists from the Bronx in New York City. The film is one of the most famous break-dance films, with quite socially critical concern, however, without pointing the finger, and helped to make breakdance and hip-hop known in the Western industrialized countries. In the GDR enjoyed the film unexpected popularity and led to the creation of countless associations that dealt exclusively with breakdance, hip-hop and graffiti.

Action

The film depicts the life of African-American adolescents Kenny (Guy Davis), his brother Lee ( Robert Taylor) and Chollie (Leon W. Grant) and her Puerto Rican friend, the sprayer Ramon (Jon Chardiet ). In the finale of the film DJs, sprayer and break dancers appear together at a memorial ceremony and give a broad overview of their skills and abilities. The film gives an insight into the early hip- hop scene, which succeeds in both music and dance as well as special style, attitude and way of life of that scene for a wider audience to make themselves understood.

Co - financed and produced the film was by Harry Belafonte. Among other things, play in this film, the Rock Steady Crew and New York City Breakers with that present themselves. Also have in the film most sizes of that hip- hop scene performances, such as Grandmaster Melle Mel and The Furious Five, Afrika Bambaataa and the Soul Sonic Force and Shango, Kool DJ Herc, Tina B., Brenda K. Starr, and The Treacherous Three. Saundra Santiago celebrated one of its greatest successes in the U.S. series Miami Vice.

Criticism

  • Encyclopedia of the International film: The very focused on the music film uses the background story to illustrate the positive feeling of a younger generation; sympathetic Entertainment.
