Beatnik
The term beatnik was invented by Herb Caen of the San Francisco Chronicle for members of the Beat Generation (direction of U.S. literature after the Second World War). The name is inspired by the then shot into space by the Soviet Union launched Sputnik.
Symbols of this subculture are the bebop and modern jazz and the constant preoccupation with literature; A closely related concept is that of the Hipsters.
