Beatport

Beatport is an online music store, which applies in the Electronic Dance Music as an online market leader.

Beatport.com offers a wide range of musical pieces of electronic dance music. The music files are billed per download, which are available in the formats MP3, MP4 and WAV. The MP3 files are usually encoded at 320 kbit / s ( LAME codec ), MP4 files with 192 kbit / s VBR. Since November 2011, the AIFF is also offered, which should guarantee a Loseless sound. For WAV / AIFF files to a surcharge of 0,75 Euro per piece of music is a flat rate charged.

Since September 2004, Beatport is a partner of Native Instruments. Their DJ software Traktor3 could directly access the web shop to preview music to buy and then download it. Opening the browser was not necessary. This option is no longer available since the change of Traktor3 on Traktor Pro.

The hip-hop and black music offshoot Beat Source has not prevailed and was discontinued.

In August 2008, the GEMA procured the Mannheim Regional Court for an injunction against Beatport because of differences in licensing.

In an interview with the magazine de: bug said the company's founder, Eloy Lopez, the data volume for the music archives consist of 30 terabytes and 270,000 titles. Of the revenue 40 percent to Beatport and 60 percent went on all tracks to labels and artists. The pricing policy he put this way: € 1.49 for older tracks, € 1.99 for current titles and 2.49 € for offers exclusive license.
