Beatrice of Brabant

Beatrice of Brabant (* 1225, † 1288) was Landgrave of Thuringia and German Queen from 1246 to 1247.

Life

Beatrix of Brabant, was born as the daughter of Duke Henry II of Brabant and Lower Lorraine and his wife Maria of Swabia, daughter of the German king Philip of Swabia. She was one of six children: her brother was Henry III. of Brabant. Her sister, Mary, was executed by the husband Louis the Severe, Duke of Upper Bavaria on suspicion of infidelity.

On March 10, 1241 Beatrix of Brabant was with Henry Raspe, Landgrave of Thuringia, and from 1246 German anti-king, married. Its first two wives, Elizabeth of Brandenburg and Gertrude of Babenberg had died respectively after three years of childless marriage. This third Henry's marriage remained childless. He died in 1247 and enfeoffed his nephew Henry, the son of his sister Jutta, with the Landgraviate Thuringia.

In the same year, in November 1247, married Beatrix William II, Count of Flanders and Lord of Dampierre. This marriage remained childless and lasted only briefly, since William died on June 6, 1251. Beatrix survived her second husband even 37 years.
