Beatriz Lockhart

Beatriz Lockhart ( born January 17, 1944 in Montevideo) is an Uruguayan composer and pianist.

Lockhart was at the Conservatory of La Lira student of Emilia Conti. In 1959 she entered the National Conservatory, where she studied composition with Carlos Estrada and Héctor Tosar and piano with Hugo Balzo. In 1969 she went to the Centro Latinoamericano de Altos Estudios Musicales in Buenos Aires and studied contemporary and electroacoustic music with Alberto Ginastera, Gerardo Gandini and Francisco Kröpfl. Finally, she completed her training at the Instituto Latinoamericano de Ítalo - Roma and Franco Donatoni.

Up to 1998, Lockhart was living in Venezuela. After returning to Uruguay, she taught, among other things at the Escuela Universitaria de Música and the Escuela Municipal de Música music theory, harmony, counterpoint and composition. For her compositions, she received both in Uruguay and Venezuela numerous awards, including the Premio Nacional Instituto Panamericano de Cultura (1971 ), the Premio Nacional de Música (1981 and 1984) and the Premio Municipal de Composición the city of Caracas (1978, 1983, 1984 and 1987).
