Beaufort County is a county located in the state of North Carolina of the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Washington.

Geography

The County is located in Eastern North Carolina, is located about 120 km from the Atlantic Ocean and has an area of ​​2483 square kilometers, of which 339 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Washington County, Hyde County, Pamlico County, Craven County, Pitt County and Martin County.

History

Beaufort County was formed on December 3, 1705 from parts of Bath County. It was named after Henry Somerset, 2nd Duke of Beaufort.
