Beaufort County (South Carolina)
Beaufort County is a county located in the state of South Carolina in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Beaufort.
Geography
The County is located in the south of South Carolina, bounded on the southeast by the Atlantic Ocean and has an area of 2390 square kilometers, of which 870 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Colleton County, Jasper County and Hampton County
History
Beaufort County was formed in 1764. It was named after the Duke of Beaufort, one of the owners of the province of Carolina.

According to the census in 2000 lived in Beaufort County 120 937 people in 45 532 households, and 33,056 families. The population density was 80 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 70.66 percent White, 23.98 percent Black or African American, 0.27 percent Native American, 0.79 percent Asian, 0.05 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 2.84 percent from other races groups; 1.41 percent were descended from two or more races. 6.79 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 45 532 households 30.4 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them. 58.2 percent were married couples living together, 11.0 percent were single mothers, 27.4 percent were non-families, 21.5 percent of all households and 8.3 percent living alone who is 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.51 and the average family size was 2.90 persons.
23.3 percent of the population was under 18 years old. 12.0 percent between 18 to 24, 27.2 percent between 25 and 44, 22.1 percent between 45 and 64 and 15.5 percent were 65 years of age or older. The average age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 102.4 males to 100 females age 18 and over, there were 102 men.
The median income for a household was $ 46,992, and the median income for a family was $ 52,704. Males have a median income of $ 30,541, women $ 25,284. The per capita income was $ 25,377. 8.0 percent of families and 10.7 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
