Beaufort-en-Santerre

Beaufort -en- Santerre ( Picard: Bieufort -in- Santerre ) is a northern French village with 190 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) by the Somme in the Picardie region. The municipality is located in the arrondissement of Montdidier, in the canton of Rosières -en- Santerre and is part of the Communauté de communes du Santerre.

Geography

The church in the countryside Santerre is 6.5 km south-southwest of Rosières -en- Santerre at the department road D161.

History

In Beaufort remains of a Roman villa have been found. The place is first mentioned in 1206. The municipality received the Croix de guerre as a distinction from 1914 to 1918. During the Second World War battles took place in early June 1940 held in Beaufort. On 7 July 2001, the city suffered storm damage.
