Beaujeu, Rhône

Beaujeu is a commune with 2042 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Rhône department in the Rhône -Alpes; it belongs to the district of Villefranche -sur -Saône and is the administrative center of the canton of Beaujeu.

History

Beaujeu - located between the Mâcon and Lyon - is the historical capital of the ancient province of Beaujolais, which gave the region its name. Today the place is known for its wines.
