Beausoleil, Alpes-Maritimes

Beausoleil, ( nissart - Occitan: Bèusoulèu ), is a commune with 13,567 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Alpes-Maritimes department in the Provence- Alpes- Côte d' Azur. It belongs to the district of Nice and forms its own canton. In addition, Beausoleil is a member of the Association of Local Authorities Agglomà de la Riviera française.

Geography

The municipality is located in Beausoleil, close to the Côte d' Azur and is immediately adjacent to the northwest to the Principality of Monaco, where the settlements are transferred to almost 2.5 kilometers in length with each other. Some include houses on a street to Beausoleil, on the opposite to Monaco. The municipal area extends to the northwest the foothills of the French Alps up. The location above Monaco offers numerous vantage points such as the 291 m high Mont des Mules. In the far north of the municipality runs the A8 autoroute.

Neighboring municipalities are in the north Peille, northeast Roquebrune- Cap- Martin, in the east and south, the Monegasque city districts Saint- Romain, Saint- Michel and Moneghetti and in the west of La Turbie.

History

Beausoleil was founded in 1904 by removal from the municipality of La Turbie. The reorganization was necessary for the Principality of Monaco because of the enormous building activity and the rapidly growing population on the border. The new church was originally given the name Monte Carlo Supérior. After protests by the princely house of the name ( beau = beautiful, soleil = sun) was chosen Beausoleil to address tourists.

The strong growth of the new church was mainly due to the development of tourism and gambling in Monte Carlo. There are many jobs have been created, which attracted immigrants from Italy and rural environment.

The building fabric has close to the border with the Principality on some of the buildings of the Belle Époque. On the slopes, there are numerous villas.

Population

With 13,567 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Beausoleil is among the top 20 of the 163 municipalities of the department of Alpes- Maritimes. After the population after the establishment of the municipality in 1904 until the beginning of the 1920s rose to over 8,000, followed by a further population growth was recorded. After a temporary stagnation in the 1980s, since then was again a steady increase.
