Bebung

The vibrato is the " vibrato " that arises against the string at the clavichord by changing the pressure on the key, and thus the hard proof of the tangent.

Function

In Johann Georg Sulzer's General Theory of the Fine Arts from 1771 states: " The vibrato of a tone is a very rapid change of height and depth, as well as the strength and weakness of the same, during his time, which he, without losing its nature, something gets varied. " A vibrato change the tension of the string, and thus the frequency of the sound produced. For this explains the Sulzersche Encyclopedia: " Bey of Bebung the tones changes the stronger and weaker, the higher and lower from with such rapidity that the change itself is not clear, and this gives the tone a little soft, and as it wavy. ". In musical notation, a vibrato is indicated by points with an arc above the note.
