Becherovka

Becherovka (formerly Becherovka Bitter ) is a made ​​in Karlovy Vary ( Czech Karlovy Vary ) in the Czech Republic -derived, greenish- yellow herbal liqueur brandy, which is produced exclusively by the company Jan Becher.

The classic Becherovka contains 38 % vol. Alcohol, even more variations are next sold. The herb is either pure, ice cold or made into a mixed drink. In addition to long-drinks with tonic water, cola, kofola there are other recipes, for example with lemon.

History

The liqueur was made ​​with a recipe kept secret for years of herbs and spices from the British colonies and alcohol from the chemist Josef Vitus cup in Carlsbad for the first time and his son Johann cup (1815-1896) continued to be produced. This bitters, initially called "English Bitter ", has been called " Becherovka " during the 19th century in Austria - Hungary a sales success and has since been with accompanying disputes over the right recipe, especially the required spices copied. After the First World War and the creation of Czechoslovakia, the term " Becherovka " was in Czech language called Becherovka and ironically referred to as the thirteenth of the twelve existing mineral springs spa town of Karlovy Vary. Until the First World War, the Becherovka had received numerous awards and at the Paris World Exposition in 1900 the Grand Prix.

After the Second World War and the expropriation of the German family owners cup in 1946 by the Beneš decrees, production was scaled back. Under the leadership of Václav Lupínek the Becherovka became one of the most famous liqueur brands in the country since the 1960s. In 1993, the state-owned enterprise was privatized.

From 1998 to 2001 there was a Nachahmeprodukt of Becherovka in Slovakia; whose producer Zdeněk Hoffmann has this produced by a supposedly bestowed on his grandfather Alfred mug, members of the family in 1939 cup recipe. In 2007 he was forced by the district court Domažlice for ceasing production.

Production

It is made from herbs, oils and alcohol. The ingredients are listed in the Drogikamr at the factory in Karlovy Vary (Carlsbad ) to an undisclosed recipe. The herbal mixture is filled into plastic sacks and about a week immersed in a tank of alcohol. Then the extract is mixed with water and sugar and filled into oak casks. There, the Becherovka matured for two months. After the herb is packaged in the typical green, flattened bottles. These have the sizes from 5 cl up to 4.5 liters capacity.
