Becky Hammon

Rebecca Lynn " Becky " Hammon (Russian Ребекка Линн " Бэкки " Хаммон / Rebekka Linn " Bekki " Hammon, born March 11, 1977 in Rapid City, South Dakota, United States ) is an American- Russian professional basketball player. She currently plays for the San Antonio Silver Stars in the Women's National Basketball Association.

Career

College

Becky Hammon played until 1999 for the women's basketball team at Colorado State University. On 12 November 2004 Hammon was inducted into the Colorado State University Hall of Fame. On January 22, 2005 Hammon # 25 was closed in honor of their jersey number at Colorado State University forever.

WNBA (since 1999)

Despite their impressive performances at the college, she was never selected by a WNBA team in a WNBA Draft. On May 12, 1999, she attended the New York Liberty under contract, where she was initially only the replacement player by Teresa Weatherspoon. Hammon was up to the 2003 season, the replacement player of Weatherspoon, but when they moved to the Los Angeles Sparks for the 2004 season, Hammon took over their place in the starting lineup. In their first season in the starting lineup Hammon led the Liberty to the Eastern Conference Finals, but where they failing tete with the Liberty to the Connecticut Sun.

On the occasion of the WNBA Drafts 2007 Hammon was together with a second-round pick in the WNBA Draft 2008 on the San Antonio Silver Stars for a first-round pick ( second overall pick Jessica Davenport ) transferred in the WNBA Draft 2007. In the 2007 season they played their strongest season to date. She scored an average of 18.8 points and 5 assists per game. Since they had the best assist average in the league, she was awarded a WNBA Peak Performer. Hammon won the Silver Stars 20 out of 34 games and made so with the Silver Stars for the first time in their history the way into the playoffs, where the Silver Stars failed only in the Conference Finals to the later WNBA champion Phoenix Mercury. As she recovered important throws in crucial moments, she received from the fans nicknamed " Big Shot Becky ".

Internationally

Hammon was not called despite their strong performances in the 2008 basketball team of the United States. Since Hammon plays during the WNBA season break for a basketball team in Russia, it has since 2008, in addition to the U.S. and Russian citizenship. After she was not called she tried for the Russian basketball team at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing to compete. After Hammon had trained with the Russian national team a few times, it was finally convened in the Russian basketball team for the 2008 Olympic Games. Hammon eventually won the bronze medal at the Olympics with Russia.
