Beda Weber

Beda Weber, actually Johann Chrysanth Weber, ( born October 26, 1798 in Lienz, † February 28, 1858 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a writer, theologian and member of the Frankfurt National Assembly on 18 May 1848 to 12 April 1849.

Life

After a cobbler apprenticeship, he attended the Franciscan school Bolzano, thereafter to study philosophy in Innsbruck. He joined the Abbey Marienberg in burgeis / Vinschgau, where he took the name Beda. From 1821 he studied theology in Innsbruck, later in Bressanone.

After ordination in 1828 he became a teacher at the secondary school of the Benedictine Meran ( South Tyrol). In 1848 he was elected as a deputy in the National Assembly in Frankfurt and there was the National Liberal Casino Group to order Heinrich von Gagern. As of August 1849, he was until his death a Catholic parish priest of Frankfurt. In this role he was also member of the Cathedral Chapter of the Diocese of Limburg.

During his tenure, the renovation of the Imperial Cathedral of St. Bartholomew from 1854 to 1856 and the completion of the endowment in 1830 concluded the contract with the Free City of Frankfurt in 1856 fell.

Weber died suddenly of heart failure. His grave is located in the Frankfurt 's main cemetery.

In addition to his professional career, he wrote biographies, travel guides, and moved the text of Oswald von Wolkenstein.

Honors

  • In Lienz, Bolzano, Innsbruck, Bruneck and Merano streets bear his name.
  • The Beda -Weber -Gymnasium in Merano is named after him since 1966.
  • In Merano a bust Weber is on the Gilfpromenade (since 1907).
