Bedburg-Hau

The community Bedburg -Hau lies on the Lower Rhine in the northwest of North Rhine -Westphalia and is a municipality belonging to a county district of Kleve in the district of Dusseldorf. She is a member of the Euregio Rhine - Waal.

The community Bedburg -Hau is bordered to the west and north of the city of Kleve, in the east on the town of Kalkar and on the south by the city of Goch and the community Uedem.

History

Territorial reform

Bedburg -Hau emerged in its present form 1 July 1969, the first municipal restructuring program in North Rhine -Westphalia. The communities Hau, Louis village, Schneppenbaum and Till - Moyland the Office Till and the community Huisberden the Office Griethausen merged to form the new municipality Bedburg -Hau.

On 1 January 1975, the old district of Kleve was merged with the former county funds and sub-areas of the circles Moers and Rees as the new Lower Rhine Kreis Kleve United during the second restructuring program in North Rhine -Westphalia.

The council consists of 28 representatives. Since the last municipal election on 30 August 2009, the council CDU ( 49.4 %, 14 seats), SPD ( 17.7 %, 5 seats), the FDP ( 17.3 %, 5 seats) and Green ( 15.6 %, 4 seats) represented.

The next municipal election will be held in 2014.

Mayor

The Mayor, Peter Driessen (independent), was re-elected on 30 August 2009 unopposed with 93.6 %.

The next mayoral election will take place in 2015.

Culture and sights

A higher level of awareness was the community Bedburg -Hau, which opened in 1997 Moyland Castle Museum. Here, the world's largest collection of works and archives is currently housed and from Joseph Beuys. In mountain and valley in the district of Hau is the tomb of Maurice of Nassau, which he himself had built next to his house in 1678. Of the Romanesque cruciform church from the 12th century, the tower and the Ostschiff are obtained with the younger gothic chancel in the original. The remaining parts of the building had been broken off the end of the 18th century and have been restored neuromanisch 1900-1902.
