Bedford (Nova Scotia)

Bedford is a town and former city in Nova Scotia, Canada. It is a suburb of Halifax and Dartmouth.

History

At the beginning of the colonization by the British, the area belonged to Bedford to Sackville. Only in the middle of the 18th century used the name for the Bedford area, named in honor of John Russell, 4th Duke of Bedford, and Secretary of State for the Colonies. In 1896 the present name was officially registered. Bedford became a city on 1 July 1980. Since 1 April 1996, Bedford, together with Halifax, Dartmouth and Halifax County the County Halifax Regional Municipality ( HRM).
