Bedford is a city in Cuyahoga County of the state of Ohio, United States. Bedford heard as eastern suburb of metropolitan Cleveland. The population was 2000 14.214 inhabitants in the census year. Acting Mayor is currently Daniel S. Pocek.

History

Bedford was born in 1837 as the first independent church in Bedford Township. Bedford Township was surveyed in 1797 as part of the Connecticut Western Reserve of Connecticut Land Company. The area around Bedford offered the settlers farmland and timber resources and hydropower from Tinkers Creek.

The first operation in Bedford Township was founded in 1816 by Benjamin Franklin Fitch for the production of wooden chairs company. Under his employees and later son William O. Taylor, they became known as The Taylor Chair Company. This furniture company still exists today. After a fire in 1850, they moved from their original location in the present city of Maple Heights in the city of Bedford and took advantage of the water power of the Tinkers Creek. 1885, in the city further operation to the chair making, The Marble & Shattuck Chair Company, founded.

In the 1930s, Bedford was raised together with other neighboring communities such as Garfield Heights and Maple Heights to the city. These communities in the affluent suburbs of Cleveland had benefited from the huge influx of immigrants. By electric trams were associated with Cleveland, but had to get the benefits of the quieter and more rural area. Therefore, they defended themselves against annexation attempts and prefer to retain their own structures in.

Education

Bedford, together with Bedford Heights, Oakwood and Walton Hills Bedford School District. These include the Bedford High, the Central Primary School, the Glendale Primary School, Columbus Intermediate School, the Carylwood Intermediate School, the Heskett Middle School and Bedford High. The Columbus Intermediate School and Heskett Middle School located in Bedford Heights, the other schools are located directly in the city of Bedford.

In 2006, the perfume "The Spirit of Bedford " was created by Valerie Allen. Trademark on the bottle is the painting The Spirit of '76 the painter Archibald Willard, who was born in Bedford. A portion of the proceeds going to a fund to provide scholarships for the students of Bedford High School.
