Bedford VAL

The Bedford VAL was a coach that was produced in the 1960s by Bedford in Great Britain. As a three-axle bus with two front axles, he was a rare phenomenon in his time.

Originally served a six-cylinder diesel engine Leyland O 400 as a drive. This machine was called the Omnibus VAL14.

About 900 copies of the VAL14 were built from 1963 to 1966; the largest orders came from Wallace Arnold, Leeds, Seamarks in Westoning, Everall in Wolverhampton and Barton.

In 1967 there was the Val70 with the slightly larger Bedford Machine with 466 cu.in. ( 7,636 cm ³) of displacement. He quickly outstripped the VAL14.

Structures

The VAL was delivered by structures of different body operations. Most VAL14 are endowed by Duple or Plaxton. But there were also other body manufacturers such as Harrington and Yeates. Some VAL14 also received bus bodies of Marshall bus (10 pieces) for the BEA, some of Strachan (10 pieces) for Northwestern.

Occurrence in movies

The Bedford VAL 1969 also internationally known for a role in the film Charlie million from dust ( The Italian Job ). This bus was a Harrington Legionaire with the registration number ALR 453B, which was delivered to Batten in April 1964. After the conversions for the film, the bus took the normal travel again and was scrapped in the 1990s.

A karossiertes of Plaxton copy bearing the registration number URO 913E can be seen in the movie The Beatles Magical Mystery Tour 1967. This bus was delivered in the same year at Fox Hayes. Another bus with registration number SCK 56K, a VAL, in the 2000s, used in Liverpool for the " Magical Mystery Tour", a city tour in the footsteps of the Beatles.
