Bedum

( Listen? / I ) bedum is a municipality in the province of Groningen in the Netherlands. Bedum is about 45 km ² and has 10,550 inhabitants ( 1 January 2013). Of these, about 9,000 live in the main village Bedum, 1200 in Zuidwolde, 700 and 350 in Onderdendam in Noordwolde.

Location and economic

The community is located only about 10 kilometers north of the provincial capital of Groningen and about 35 kilometers west of the German border. In the 1970s, the Municipality of Groningen annexed several square kilometers at the expense Bedums. There Groningen built the district Beijum.

In the municipality is cultivated from time immemorial cabbage for sauerkraut. This plant is called in the local dialect: " Boeskool ". Therefore, a statue of a white cabbage farmers ( " boeskoolboer " ) was built in Zuidwolde.

Bedum has a small railway station on the railway line Groningen - Delfzijl.
