History

Bee Cave, as we know it today, has only existed since 1987, but the idea of a city without the influence of a large city existed some 140 years before.

Some years before 1850 drew Dietrich Bohls with his family here when the city of Austin it had become too big with its 900 inhabitants at that time. Around 1870, a Carl Beck also reached this area and opened a general store at the intersection of present-day Highway 71 and Hamilton Pool Road. 1873 Beck was also postmaster and opened a post office in his store. Looking for a name for the post office, this reminded of the many bees and beehives along the banks of the two Creeks and named it Bee Cave.

For the next 100 years, people lived here quietly and in seclusion. This changed in the 80s, when Austin was getting bigger and started with the incorporations. In the course of which the place got the official status of the Village of Bee Cave.
