Beep Media Player

Beep Media Player (BMP) is a graphic, free audio player for unix -like operating systems. Depending on the installed plugins, it can play all popular audio formats. The application can also use the classic skins from Winamp. It has a GTK 2- based graphical user interface.

History

The project was split off in the fall of 2003 by Milosz Derezynski ( "dead chip" ) of the gtk1 -based XMMS; Version 0.9.6 was released on December 24. The player has been renamed from Beep Beep Media Player in order to prevent confusion with the Unix program Beep, which drives the internal speaker system.

The development was discontinued in favor of a successor, codenamed " bmpx ". Bmpx been rewritten to 95% in C and is based on version 2.8 of GTK on. It is the library GStreamer (≥ 0.10.4 ) is used as a backend. Bmpx support against BMP, among others, D-Bus and its own media library to manage audio files.

With Audacious another spin-off of Beep Media Player, which continues the original concept was born.
