Begga

The Holy Begga of Heristal ( Herstal ), Landen, Andennes, of Brabant, of Metz and of Austrasia (c. 620; † December 17, 692, 693 or 695 ) was the daughter of the Frankish mayor of the palace Pepin the Elder and the Itta or Iduberga. She was the grandmother of Charles Martel, the grandfather of Charlemagne.

She married Ansegisel of Metz Austrasia, son of Bishop Arnulf of Metz from the family of Arnulf Inger, thereby strengthening the additions already existing alliance between the two families. Her son was the future home Meier Pippin the Middle, could unite the power and possessions of Arnulf Inger and Pippinids.

Begga founded 690/691, shortly before her death, the monastery Andenne on the Meuse between Namur and Liege. She was Buried in Andenne on the Meuse.
