Beidenfleth

Beidenfleth is a municipality in the district of Steinburg, in Schleswig- Holstein.

Geography and transport

Beidenfleth is the Wilstermarsch on the right (western) bank of the sturgeon. The Beidenflether port is used mainly by recreational craft. Through the community run the Altenfelder bettors which opens on the dock in the sturgeon, as well as the wholesale Kampen bettors.

History

Beidenfleth first time was mentioned in the Annales regni Francorum (sub anno 809), when 809 delegates met there in Karl the Great and the King of Denmark Göttrik. However, the name Badenfliot will only appear in one of the manuscripts.

From the 12th century Dutch settlers laid the drainage ditches are still visible today. The first named after St. Nicholas Chapel was built in 1108, but soon replaced by a stone church. Reminiscent of a free-standing tower mill built in 1557. In the church there is a medieval bronze font, several medieval carvings and a Baroque altar.

As a political community consists Beidenfleth since 1876.

The municipality is situated on the sturgeon in the Holstein Elbmarsch. Had the cruise on the sturgeon and the nearby Elbe and has for the church always been an important economic significance. Culture and sights

Architectural landmark of the village are the church of St. Nicholas and the windmill hope. One of the last of its kind, the Störfähre Else is operated. It represents a tourist attraction and is the only way to Störquerung between twelve kilometers upstream bascule bridge located in Heiligenstedten and the top ten kilometers downstream on the Störsperrwerk in Wewelsfleth federal highway 431
