Beijing Television Cultural Center

The Television Cultural Center ( TVCC ) is a cultural center under construction in Beijing with 159 meters height and 34 floors opposite the building of the China Central Television Headquarters ( CCTV).

The Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA ) won on 20 December 2002 the construction contract from the Beijing International Tendering Co. to build the TVCC and CCTV Headquarters.

During the 2008 Summer Olympics, the TVCC served as a broadcasting center for foreign television journalists. After completion of a theater with 1500 seats, a ballroom, cinemas, exhibition spaces, a luxury hotel and conference center, a television studio and a computer center to be housed in the building complex.

The construction began in 2004, the opening was scheduled for mid- May 2009. Was a large fire on 9 February 2009, however, the TVCC burned out completely. Cause of the fire was ignited illegal fireworks at the end of the New Year. The damage is estimated at $ 588 million, sixteen suspects and head of design were arrested. The renovation work on the heavily damaged buildings continued in early 2012 to continue.
