Belavia Belarusian Airlines is the national airline of Belarus, headquartered in Minsk and based on the National Airport Minsk.

History

On 7 November 1933, the first airport terminal in Belarus was opened in Minsk. The following spring three Po-2 were transferred to Minsk. These formed the first Belarusian aircraft fleet. In 1936 the first line of connection between Minsk and Moscow was established. In the summer of 1940 the Belarusian civil aviation group was officially established. 1964 was the Tupolev Tu -124 approval in Belarus. 1973 began flight operations with Tupolev Tu- 134A in Belarus. In 1983, the Tupolev Tu- 154 was incorporated into the Byelorussian flight operations.

Belavia was officially founded on March 5, 1996, when the resident department of Aeroflot was nationalized and renamed. Until 1998, then -scheduled flights to Beijing, Istanbul, Larnaca, London, Prague and Rome were established. 1998 Belavia merged with Minskavia, which led to the expansion of the fleet by a few Antonov An-24, Antonov An-26 and Yakovlev Yak -40.

Since May 18, 2001 Belavia operates a direct connection between Minsk and Paris. Since 2003, Belavia published an in-flight magazine in English, Russian and Belarusian. On 16 October 2003 Belavia signed a lease for its first Boeing 737-500 from. In 2004, the route network was expanded and added another Boeing 737 fleet. On 26 June 2004, a connection to Hanover was established.

In the fall of 2012 Belavia took over two Embraer 175 in the lease.

Destinations

The Belavia operates a growing route network between Belarus and Europe, the CIS countries and the Middle East. Be Flew example, Astana, Tel Aviv, Amsterdam and London. In German-speaking society Berlin, Frankfurt, Hanover and Vienna served.

In addition, maintains Belavia codeshare agreement with airBaltic, Austrian Airlines, Czech Airlines, Estonian Air, Finnair, KLM, LOT, Azerbaijan Airlines, AeroSvit, Aeroflot, Rossiya, S7 Airlines and Transaero Airlines.

As of July 2013, the fleet of Belavia Belarusian Airlines aircraft consists of 25 with a mean age of 13.3 years:

  • 2 Embraer 175
  • 4 Tupolev Tu- 154M (including 1 operated as a government aircraft )

Incidents

  • On 1 February 1985, a Tupolev Tu-134 crashed shortly after starting in Minsk, where 58 of the 80 passengers were killed. Inadequate de-icing before take-off led to the formation of ice and so the failure of two engines.
  • On 14 February 2008, a Bombardier CRJ100 overturned shortly after takeoff in the Armenian capital Yerevan. All 18 passengers and three crew members on board survived, but were severely injured.
