Belcarra

Belcarra is a small municipality in the western Canadian province of British Columbia and is located in the northeastern part of the Greater Vancouver Regional District.

Geography

Belcarra is located about 30 kilometers northeast of Vancouver and the communities of Anmore, Port Moody and North Vancouver (District) surrounded. Belcarra is located on Indian Arm.

History

The granting of local government (incorporated ) on 22 August 1979. However, the story of the settlement goes further back. Prior to settlement by Europeans, the area was already settlements and hunting grounds of the First Nation.

Demography

The census in 2011 showed a population of 644 persons for the small village. The population has thereby decreased compared to the census of 2006 at 4.7%, while the population in British Columbia grew by 7.0 % at the same time.

Economy

In Belcarra are the biggest employment sectors, the education sector, the research and development as well as health and social work. Often, however, do not sit the employer in the community, but the workers commute to work in Vancouver.

The average income of all employees from Belcarra in 2005 was at C $ 47,075, while with 24 867 C $ was only about half at the same time the average for the entire province of British Columbia. The percentage difference in earnings between men ( 53 365 C $; provincial average = 31 598 C $ ) and women ( 45 168 C $; provincial average = 19 997 C $) falls in Belcarra, based on the average income of all workers in the province, less than in comparison to the entire province.
